Sir Thomas More
- Born February 7, 1478 in London
- Study to be a lawyer and became a under-sheriff in 1510
- In 1517 he became a secretary, interpreter, speech-writer, chief diplomat, advisor and confidant to King Henry VIII.
- In 1521 he was knighted
- He became the speaker of the House of Commons in 1523
- In 1525 he became the chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster
- Became lord chancellor in 1529, but later resigned when King Henry called himself 'supreme head of the Church of England and obtained a divorce
- Executed by account of treason on July 6, 1535 for not swearing to the Act of Succession
Famous Works
- In 1515 he wrote 'The History of Henry III', which exposed a bad light on the king
- In 1516 he published his most important work titled, 'Utopia'.
- Wrote many pamphlets speaking against heresy
